Stand & Be Counted's Youth Theatre of Sanctuary
is a creative group for children and young people seeking sanctuary,
aged 0-15, and their families.
Join us for fun, friendly and welcoming sessions, using creativity to explore and make live and digital productions throughout the year. Launched in September 2021, this is the first group of its kind in the UK and invites children and young people aged 0-15* to develop a wide range of creative skills, learn English and make new friends.
We are currently running this group in Sheffield in partnership with The Montgomery Theatre and in Oldham with Oldham Coliseum Theatre.
Sessions are free to join, we cover all travel expenses, provide interpreters and enjoy a meal together.
*Babies and children aged 0-5 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Secret Summer
We love to try out loads of different and exciting creative skills in our sessions and show them off to the world throughout the year!
We made an immersive audio adventure for people to enjoy in different parks across Sheffield and Oldham. This live-meets-digital production was created by our Youth Theatre of Sanctuary members in sessions with loads of SBC artists. We created characters and storylines, design and illustration for the app and the live set in the parks, we recorded the chapters in English and Arabic AND made our own theme tune!
Together
We were the first group of children seeking sanctuary to make and present our work on a UK main stage!
Together was performed at The Crucible, Sheffield to over 400 people and it was “the best show ever!”. We choreographed dance and movement, wrote speeches, poems and song, we devised (very) dramatic scenes and we designed the set, costumes and interactive projection. Phew! We can’t wait for what’s next!
Live-meets-digital
We love exploring all the different ways we can be creative. We like to think about Theatre as our process but our productions can be anything we want! We have made music videos, video games, exhibitions for galleries, we’ve given speeches alongside local leaders and we love playing football, musical chairs and Splat!
Our Youth Theatre of Sanctuary is a place to make friends, get creative and be ambitious - no idea is off limits!
