Soap Box is a creative empowerment programme for young people seeking sanctuary aged 18-35. Our weekly workshops are a relaxed, social space for members to explore a wide range of creative skills in order to build confidence, make new friends, practise English, develop a supportive network of peers and become agents of change in their lives and communities. Members of Soap Box collaborate with artists, researchers, migrant support and youth sector organisations to influence local and regional strategic work towards the inclusion of migrant youth, and the integration of young people in their communities.
Throughout the year we create live and digital productions driven by our members’ passions and interests, we present at conferences and events and attend local theatre productions and festivals. We think creativity can make the world better for all of us and we know there are lots of things you’d like to see improved in your area and city, so join us for weekly sessions where together we can make positive changes for everyone…

Every workshop is led by creative professionals, many of whom have lived experience of seeking asylum or migration. Our workshops are friendly and relaxed and there is no time commitment or expectations, you can join us for 20 minutes during one session or three hours every week. We know you have busy lives and important appointments, so join us when you can.
We cover travel expenses and provide refreshments. We will have interpreters in the room at all times, if there is any other support you need just let our team know and we will arrange.
Sessions are free to join, we cover all travel expenses, provide interpreters and enjoy a meal together.
Soap Box was formerly called Young People Together, a partnership between Stand and Be Counted; the UK’s first Theatre Company of Sanctuary and the University of Sheffield.
